Yesterday my housemate's friend and his girlfriend wanted to come over for a drinking session. My housemate wanted a drink and I enjoy driving so I drove to pick them up and brought them back to the apartment. On the way I wanted to pick up something to eat so we parked right at the top of the car park of the local superstore as there were no spaces anywhere else, the disabled spaces get taken by lazy people and anywhere closer to the store ends up with someone parking next to me leaving me in one hell of a difficult situation.

When we got to the front of the store my housemate's friend grabbed one of the wheelchairs they have in store and started wheeling about so I grabbed onto the handles for a free ride!

When we got back home they wanted to go to some event in a local town so off we went. The area wasn't the best for accessibility but we made it and got into one of the pubs. This old drunk guy spotted us and waved for us to sit at a table near him so we did and then he started trying to speak to us. He made no sense, he was so drunk and was blatantly trying to chat us up and offered to take me to the bathroom. I HATE being approached as it is and when someone harasses me I get pretty nasty so we got the doorman involved and we were saved.

After an hour or so the girlfriend wanted to leave so I persuaded the boys to leave and on the way home she wanted to actually go home. I dropped her off, and her boyfriend followed which was a shame as my housemate was drunk and wanted to party. I took him back home and we tried to find somewhere to go when he remembered a birthday party somewhere so off we went. When we arrived at our destination he remembered the party was Friday night! I text one of my friends just to say hi and she called so we went and picked her up and went to her house.

When we got there my housemate gave me a piggy back into her living room and placed me on the sofa. We stayed there for a while til my friend found a party and my housemate carried me to the toilet and back, only dropping my leg once in his drunken stupor. I had to be carried to the car and into the party when we got there.

One girl at the party took first impressions and thought I was just a diva til my friends explained I'm paralysed and I stayed on the sofa til I decided I wanted to go home and go to the toilet independently. I can't wait til I get a Foley catheter so I can pop it in and not worry!

I was just startled by the buzzer to my apartment going and quickly transferred into my wheelchair. I knew who it was and didn't want them to leave before I got to the door. My one foot had slid off the foot rest but I didn't have time to put it back on. It was the post man, with a parcel! I took it from him, signed for it and hurried back to my place on the sofa whilst excitedly texting my housemate. I rushed to open it and inside was a plain cardboard box with two red drawstring bags each containing a black patent Christian Louboutin shoe in my size. I got them on perfectly, no struggle, they were meant to be!

Yesterday I went to my doctors for my holiday injections! My right arm feels like it's been punched now from the polio/diphtheria/tetanus shot. It doesn't affect my transfers - it only hurts if I raise my arm or lie on it. I slept on it for a while last night and the pain came into my dream!

Last night my housemate came back at about 4am, steaming drunk, and had me singing to him for hours! I was so tired when I decided to get out of bed. I'm lazy in the mornings anyway - I won't go to the bathroom, I'll do a catheter into a bag instead and go back to sleep!

I'm expecting a couple of parcels any day soon, a wonderful friend across the sea has sent me some amazing shoes that I've always coveted and never bought. I really can not wait to open them when they arrive, pull my leg into the air and ease them onto my floppy little feet. I have a screw driver to help ease my toes through if my fingers won't fit!

I had a lovely dream last night. Occasionally I have a dream where I am aware I am dreaming and can manipulate the surroundings and situations. I was at a house party listening to my favourite music with some people who were my friends (I didn't recognise their faces but people are often different in dreams). I suddenly realised I was dreaming and started having a dance to the music and walking about. I knew it wouldn't last long and it didn't but I woke up really happy knowing I'd had fun.

I got up and decided I wanted to wash my hair so I pulled up by the side of my bath (I have a bath chair that goes up and down) and manoeuvred the chair so the front castor were facing forward. I pressed the controls for the bath chair but the battery was flat so I put it on charge and had some breakfast while I waited. After about half an hour I got myself into the bath and used the shower head to wash my hair and body, scrubbing my lifeless legs and feet as well as my toned upper half.

When I was done I placed a towel on my chair hanging down so I could put my feet on it too and got in my chair and wheeled to the bedroom where I got into bed and moisturised myself. When I do my legs I find I get a better all over effect if I lie back and pull each leg into the air and rub my entire leg. Probably good for circulation too. I pay extra attention to my feet. I got dressed and shuffled back into my chair ready to face the day ahead.

I've been looking at holiday destinations the last few days. I had my eye on Beijing especially as it's all been renovated due to the Olympics making it more wheelchair accessible but my housemate mentioned Thailand so I booked the flights yesterday advising them I'm wheelchair dependent - unsure how it will work in the airport and on the plane, I think they send the chair and me separately! I won't be on my own anyway. I spent yesterday checking out hotels and booked a lovely one with a hot tub on the roof overlooking the city and we will book excursions when we get there as it's cheaper apparently!

I've had a really busy week with way too much to be writing about but I'll try to summarise! Some lads I know were off on a stag party in Ibiza on Thursday and wanted some girls to strip on the bus so I arranged for my sister to go and they said I could do the lesbian spot too so I went for the journey to the airport and back. About 2 hours in I felt really queasy and felt my stomach and I was really bloated. Thankfully I brought catheters with bags as well as the little ones I use over the toilet so I lay down on the seats and my sister held my legs up and got the catheter in. I filled the bag up to a litre in volume! No wonder I felt ill!

My sister stayed over Thursday night and I took her back to her home town Friday with my housemate and he took me out for a belated birthday meal. On Saturday I went to Barry and picked up a friend to stay over that night. My housemate and his friend joined me on the journey and on the way there we decided to take advantage of the weather and bought 2 disposable BBQ's and some food. We all drove to Ogmore and my housemate carried me on his back down onto the beach and placed me on a rock with my wheelchair cushion underneath me. It was a lush BBQ and we headed back when the tide started to come in. Back at home my housemate carried me to the apartment above ours but I didn't enjoy it there so carried me back.

On Sunday it was sunny again but when it's hot it's too much being in the wheelchair as it's not comfortable to relax in - I wanted to go back inside so my housemate sorted a bean bag out and placed me on that, nice and comfy! I took my shirt off to get some more sun and have a bit of sunburn now!

Wednesday 5 August 2009

You won't believe the number of times I got in and out of the car today, I proved to myself I can still be independent even if it is a bit awkward!

I got up at about 1pm and called my folks to let them know I'd be up when I'm ready. I leaned over the bath and washed my hair before transferring onto my shower chair over the toilet and doing a catheter and having a wash. I put a folded towel on my seat and transferred back into my chair and wheeled back into my bedroom. I got on the bed, put some fake tan on and deodorant and reached over for the jeans and vest I laid out the night before. A couple of wiggles and my jeans were up and my vest on. I left the apartment and got into the car, bringing my chair behind me. I got it all out again when I arrived at my folks and sat with them for a while until I decided to return home.

When I got back I had to do the whole wheelchair thing again and I was hungry so I thought about it and decided to go to Toby carvery on my own so that was another wheelchair in and out job. I love it when people give me evil looks when I pull into a disabled bay because they don't know where to look once they've figured out the contraption I'm assembling is a wheelchair! After Toby I decided to pop into Asda so did it all again with the chair then came home feeling quite satisfied with myself!

Tomorrow I'm meeting some friends for a coach trip to Birmingham airport - they're off to Ibiza for a stag week and when they leave the coach the bus drivers will attend to any needs I have! Happy days!
