Last night I went to Newport as my half sister lives there and we hadn't seen each other since around Christmas. I met her near Newport castle and then we picked up her girlfriend on the way and parked in an open air car park. My sister and her girlfriend sorted my chair out and we journeyed the short distance to the nearest club.

The club we wanted to go to was at the top of a hill so my sister pushed me up. I had already called to enquire about wheelchair access and was advised there was a side entrance. Yeah, a side entrance with a pretty big step! The doormen carried me in (still in my chair) and we paid the door fee and I asked where the disabled toilet was. The manager showed me.... 2 steps up to it! And then the staff were saying 'yeah it's only 2 steps' as if I could just get up and bloody walk to the toilet. I got a refund for us and we left. We tried every place in Newport and NONE had access or a disabled toilet except Wetherspoons so we went there!

Afterwards I met a friend in her friend's van and had a chat, her friend was incredibly stupid and actually argued with me claiming the stars shine because they reflect the sun's light and that my idea that they are actually balls of burning gas was wild. I can't deal with that level of stupidity. Fair enough not knowing, or thinking that that was the truth, but when you actually hear the truth most people realise they just didn't know not remain absolutely convinced! In the end I had to say 'look, this isn't getting anywhere, we're going to have to agree to disagree' because I was becoming very infuriated with him as he was trying to make out I was the dull one!

Today I decided to go and visit my Grandparents at a caravan they have and sat in the sun for a while catching up until I had to leave for bladder reasons! I came back and saw my window was open (it was shut when I left) so I was a bit scared thinking I'd been broken into and it was frustrating knowing how long it would take to even get in to see what had gone on but thankfully my housemate had come home with his friend and they were cooking dinner, which is why the window was open! Now they are both flat out sleeping on the floor lol!

I didn't realise how late it was getting when I got out of bed about half an hour ago! People have been plaguing me with phone calls since 11am and in the end I actually had to unplug my house phone and put my mobile on silent!

I'm going to the cinema later so I had a shower and lotioned myself up. I'm using a tanning moisturiser as I haven't tried the sunbeds since my accident yet I can't stand how pale I am!

The sun has come out, I'm just sat on the sofa on my laptop reading about range of motion exercises. The toes on my left foot have slowly started to wave by themselves - not as vigorously as the right foot but moving none the less! Maybe one day I'll be able to move them at will!

Monday 18 May 2009

The BBC bosses decided not to take me on after all due to my past and how the press could react , so I'm back home now. Gutted!

Sunday 17 May 2009

So I'll be off to London in a few hours til Thursday! Got my stuff all packed ready, just need to pack my toiletries and laptop! I don;t know what I'm going to do about the washing facilities - they gave me a shower room which is no use whatsoever, what am I expected to do? Take my wheelchair in the shower or throw myself out of my chair knowing full well I can't get back in? Plus there is no rail by the toilet! If it comes to that I'll do my bowel care in a public toilet!

So yesterday was the Wheelchair Dance thing, about 13 people turned up of which they'll pick 6! I don't have any clue how well I did. Most of it was just waiting about. We all had to have an assessment to check how much we can move then see their psychologist to check being on TV wouldn't cause us any psychological damage then meet the choreographers who showed us individually some moves but as they weren't in a chair it wasn't easy to follow. At the end we all did the same as a group which was more confusing! They will pick their contestants and let everyone know by next week.

I'm loving my chair even though at the moment I don;t really feel safe in it!

Tuesday 12 May 2009

I'm in the hotel ready for the morning and I am amused because the guy at reception kept forgetting I was in a wheelchair, tried to remove it twice when I was getting out of the car after he had already seen me in it as I had to get out to get help, then get back in. He told me to park nearer the bushes so the car next to me could get in (I don't have a disabled badge yet so had to park 'regular'), it was comical!

In the room he showed me the shower room as if that would help seeing as there is no bench and I'm not taking my chair in! The toilet is higher than normal toilets but there is no bar to hold onto and being on my own I don't want to chance falling so did my catheter on the bed. I had already started to pee but caught it just in time - only had to rinse my bottoms a little bit.

Breakfast is after half 7 so I think I'll be off to sleep very soon!

Monday 11 May 2009

I had a text off the Wheelchair Clinic earlier about my new wheelchair, that will be with me tomorrow - hope I like it. I really want a much smaller one cos this one drowns me like a size 16 dress would!

It's another stunning day, I am tempted to sit outside and do my laptop stuff but in the light I can't see the screen!

Awaiting the details now from the Wheelchair Dance people for where I'm staying tomorrow and where am I going Wednesday! I've put on fake tan ready hehe!

Thursday 7 May 2009

It's a lovely sunny day for a change!

The Wheelchair Dance people called - they want me to go to London Wednesday 14th for the day with the short list of contestants!

Later that day...

I decided to call the garage about my car at half 4 and they said my car was ready and could I get there by 5:15pm, of course! I called my friend who had just left and he took me up. On the way back someone had pulled out too far onto the roundabout and the car infront stopped suddenly and I thought 'oh my god here I go again' but thankfully I was going very slow and figured out it was push to brake in time! I was on edge the whole way home then though!

On the way to get the car the Wheelchair Dance people called - they will be coming up Tuesday at about 6pm!
